Behind the scenes of the Time Trap, part 1.

Basically, every escape room can list many interesting stories and stories, since those who decide to operate an escape room have to face a lot of things, from interesting difficulties to unexpected oddities. In the next post, we will take a look at some of these interesting things.

One of the most striking features of the Time Trap is that it is located in a basement system. The nearly 400 square meter basement will be fully utilized by 2021. This means that from this year all our rooms are located at 17 Erzsébet körút. However, this was not always the case. Many times, our game masters had to stand in 2-3 locations, which could sometimes cause great challenges in the organization. In addition to the fact that this is inconvenient in terms of organization, it also made it possible for the guests not to find the exact location of the game. Fortunately, this is now a thing of the past, and we can conveniently host teams wishing to escape in one place.

Erzsébet körút 17. Doorbell number 30

When a team arrives, it is best to ring the doorbell number 30. The game master picks it up and says that you have to enter through the door, then turn right and there will be a big brown door with a Time Trap sign on it. You have to enter this way, and then approach the site on the spiral staircase mentioned above at the basement exit opposite. This usually succeeds 99 times out of 100, but from the one that doesn't, pleasant humorous and anecdotal stories can come out of it. The first mistake that can be made when entering is that the dear guest does not call number 30, but resident number 3. Fortunately, the people who live here are very nice, and after they realize that it is probably not their apartment where a party of 6 children wants to fight the basilisk, they kindly guide you. We would also like to thank the resident of apartment 3.

Getting down by pressing doorbell 30 is not 100% certain yet, but it's a great start. In this case, the game master will also tell you the tips necessary to get down, but in this case anything else can come in the way. The sound of the 4-6 tram or an ambulance can still cause confusion. In such cases, a small, but all the more important piece of information may be misplaced or not heard. Teams burning with the fever of liberation can rightly think: "it can't be that complicated, we'll figure it out". I want to reassure everyone, and in most cases this is successful. We try to write and explain everything as clearly as possible. However, due to the law of large numbers, one team at a time gets lost. In this case, the teams are surprised to enter the restaurant through the back entrance of the Turkish gyro above us. Fortunately, the man who runs the place, whose gyros are incomparably delicious, is always very helpful and shows where the right path leads. From here on, you can no longer get lost on the spiral staircase and the game master will help you with everything in the basement.

Our spiral staircase is quite narrow, but we have our own Zastava!

The path of dear guests leads down to the basement of the Time Trap through a narrow spiral staircase, which is more beautiful than when it was new due to the repainting and the complete graffiti painting on the wall. Once you've reached the stairs, you have nothing else to do but follow the spiders like Harry Potter... You'll find them painted on the wall, but be careful, look in front of your feet as you wonder, so you don't roll down!

The spiral staircase definitely has one big drawback, it is quite narrow, so it unfortunately makes it quite difficult to bring down larger objects. And what large objects are needed in an escape room? We also need cupboards, wardrobes, tables, armchairs and sofas. These can be remedied with great care and proper furniture cutting and screwing/gluing skills. However, what we are most proud of is that there is almost an entire Zastava in our CSI-Budapest the Butcher room. We managed to bring almost a complete car down to the basement of the Time Trap team (at first it may not seem like such a big challenge, but it really was). This, of course, happened like a breeze. The car body was split (into 4 pieces) and had to be rewelded in the basement with engineering precision. This is when creativity and the pursuit of a perfect set meet and win.

The waiting room has been renewed!

Due to the covid crisis, we also felt it necessary to install two waiting rooms so that two teams do not accidentally have to wait in the same airspace. Here, a quick consent form awaits the teams, which is a condition for the release to begin. The design of our waiting room was inspired by our Wizarding World tracks. A built-in swing and a small climbing frame are available for children in case teams arrive early. It is also a great place to take photos. You can also find the crests of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw, so you can create a team photo according to your preferences. By the way, the game masters are very happy to help in the preparation of the pictures so that everyone can be part of them and thus become a lasting memory.

But that's not all. There is one in the room a huge TV, on which you can watch educational videos that can be useful to you during the game. By getting to know the special locks, you can enter the room more routinely, and you can rightly feel that nothing can stand in the way of escape.

Team photos!

Everyone loves experiences. Just as we like to remember the time spent with our friends and family members. This is no different in the world of escape rooms. The vast majority of

the teams that visit us take pictures together after the games, sometimes on one of the courts, sometimes in the waiting room or in the corridor. In these cases, feel free to ask the game master for help to create the perfect joint image.
For those teams that were very skilled or possibly achieved a record or an approximate result, we used to ask if we could take a picture. This is great because we can remember you after a great game. If you have achieved a very good result and you are also included, we will share your pictures on our Facebook together with your excellent results.

How dog-friendly the Time Trap is, what you should bring with you to the escape room, or how much excitement even the toilet can hide here, we will reveal these and similar secrets in our next blog.
